20 Successful Story Ideas To Promote Your Book To The Media

Authors seeking media coverage for their books simply need to tap into one or more of the suggested story ideas below and the media will respond favorably:

1.      You need to be pro-something, and emphatically so.  The extremes get attention. What are you standing up or advocating vehemently for?

2.      Go negative and be anti-someone.  Be strong with your criticisms and beat downs.  Oppose something with all of your heart and soul.

3.      Warn against an impending danger.  Fear gets our attention.

4.      Offer predictions of the future – everyone wants to know what they should prepare for or anticipate will happen.

5.      Rattle off a best or worst list – top 10 this or that.

6.      Offer useful tips on how to do something – 7,5,13 ways to fix this, do that, get what you want.

7.      Oddities work, too.  Give examples of strange facts, unusual events, odd stories, or contrary-to-expectation statistics.

8.      Provide insights on popular people, places, things, or events that shed light on them from an authoritative position of knowing.

9.      Make demands for reforms and changes – turn this into a political or legal movement.

10.  Share a confession.

11.  Expose a scandal.

12.  Reveal a secret.

13.  Provide relatable psychological insights on key human characteristics or relationships.

14.  Anything involving sex or attractive people.

15.  Show me how to make money.

16.  Share visuals of beauty, nature or animals.

17.  Tap into what’s being discussed in the news cycle.
