Feedspot Ranks This Blog As One Of The Best Book Marketing Blogs. So What?

A few years ago www.BookBaby.com recognized my blog as one of the best book blogs.  I just received word from www.Feedspot.com  that my blog has been named one of the the best book marketing blogs.  Though I feel honored by the recognition, I also feel a bit confused by it.

On the one hand, I don’t disagree with their assessments, and feel rightfully identified and classified.  I have devoted nearly seven years to writing over 2,700 blog entries – a job with no pay but the reward of knowing people enjoy what I write and that they feel impacted by my words, ideas, and experiences.

On the other hand, I have to wonder why I didn’t get more recognition.  When does Publishers Weekly mention my blog?  When does HuffPost Books quote from it?  When will the New York Times call upon me as a source for an article about book publicity?  How about Writer’s Digest – when will they say yes to my queries to be published in their magazine, providing me with a forum to help authors?

There’s no telling when one shall get their recognition – or by whom.  So many authors and artists die poor and brokenhearted, only to live on with a powerful legacy long after they die.  Maybe the fate of the Book Marketing Buzz Blog will be determined decades from now, but as of this moment,  I just continue toiling away and doing what I know best.

All awards or best-list recognition seem to come too little, too late – if at all – for many writers.  Millions of writers can’t even get a book published, let alone get their works honored by critics, awards, and prestigious authorities.  What’s the formula for winning an award or making a list?  Who really knows what goes into these selections, right?

So, now will I have an ego to quench, where I walk around thinking I’m some top blogger big shot?  Does anyone really care – and am I really any bigger now than I was a year ago?  Does an award really mean anything?

I want to strike a balance – thankful for the recognition, but confident enough to know I deserved it.  Awards aside, my mission remains the same as day one in May 2011 when this blog launched – to pen posts that bring the book community together, to inform and enlighten, and to empower others to seek the fame they and their books warrant.

I can’t write with an award in mind.  I can’t post blogs that I think will find favor with those who come up with lists and awards.  I don’t even know who they are or what recognition I should seek. All that I want is to help other writers and to grow the book publishing world.

Will you help me achieve that goal?
