Can Some Authors Make Their Own Book Marketing & Sales Opportunities?

Business Plan: Defining Your Opportunity | Covenant Group

Where do opportunities for authors to sell or market their books come from?

Let me first tell you where they don’t come from:

*Fear
*Frustration
*Laziness
*Insecurity
*Ignorance

None of that gets you anywhere but where you are. It may be natural to experience any or all of the above, but the quicker you stifle negative thinking or useless actions, the faster you will grow and succeed.

Ok, sure, I stated the obvious. I know anyone can tell you not to shit yourself, but it needs to be said. Stress run amok serves no one. It is not a strategy to worry and become incapacitated by wandering thoughts. There is no reason to make actionless worrying a habit.

Here is what you should do: Develop an opportunistic mindset. Instead of waiting for opportunities to be served to you, which rarely happens, you need to create your own opportunities and seize them at all costs.

Opportunity comes when:

*You actively think about something, explore the possibilities, marinate over your options, and then...actually take action. Brainstorm, but then do something. Ideas are nothing without follow up.

*You experiment. Try something. Take a risk. Trial and error is what is needed in order to find the way to seeing if something really has a pay-off.

*You question everyone. Do your research. Challenge assumptions. Follow your curiosity. By inquiring about any and every thing, you will learn, get new ideas, and move closer to discovering good opportunities.

*You call upon favors and ask for help. Barter, outsource or lean on connections. Go out and expand your network and get to know those you already are connected to.

*You stop overestimating people. Instead of seeking the brilliant, bulletproof idea, find something that seems so simple yet it is something people will buy into due to ego, ignorance, laziness, fear, desire, convenience, etc.

Opportunity is all around you. If you don’t see it, create it. If you can’t dream it up, change your surroundings. Each day, make progress towards developing or cashing in on an opportunity. It is in your hands – you don’t need to wait for anyone else to make your own opportunities.
