Disabled Author Is A Top Seller

First Colleen Hoover took over the best-seller list. Now it is fantasy novelist Rebecca Yarros.

The book world is healthier when there is an “it” author, someone who drives people to bookstores, gets us talking about books, and spurs a healthy competition.

Recently, just with a hardcover edition and a deluxe gift edition, Yarros sold 1.285 million copies of her debuting No. 1 book, Onyx Storm, in one week. It is the fastest-selling adult novel in two decades.

The other two books in her trilogy, Fourth Wing and Iron Flame, finished in the top five. Two more books are planned for the series.

All the more interesting about this success story is that Yarros has a disability called hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). It is a genetic disorder that affects her connective tissue and causes chronic pain and joint instability. The condition makes it difficult to stand for long or talk for long periods of time. Her books contain a character who has the same condition.

Who will be the next break-out author? Maybe it will be you?
