An Inventive Play, The Glitch, Examines How AI Can Introduce You To Your Future Child

AI is feared by many – with good reason – because of its potential influence over humans. Are we closing in on the days of Terminator or are we moving towards a Utopia? One off-Broadway play, The Glitch, believes there could be a positive application for AI – to help people interact with their future children.

Yes, you read that correctly. In a not-too distant time, AI will be able to help potential parents envision and interact with what their unborn children may turn out to be like. This is all based on the parents’ DNA samples and a thorough examination of the online footprint each parent has left.

Though that is the premise of the play, a lot more happens, where human pasts collide with AI futures. It is an interesting story that played out at the Jerry Orbach Theater in NYC, through November 2nd in a limited six-week engagement. Directed by Mark Koenig and produced by Kipp Koenig, The Glitch examines issues such as whether past trauma be corrected years later, if technology can help us understand our human selves, and if AI can give us a window into one’s spirit. But it is also a love story of sorts.

The gorgeous Danielle Augustine offers a strong stage presence as the lead, Amy, who is searching for healing while questioning her potential to parent, and Sunny Markwanna was a good counterpart, playing Wyatt, the mastermind behind the AI application who also shares a past with Amy while wondering if they also have a future together.

The play is accurately billed as “A sci-fi dramedy about the daughter you haven’t had and the person you realize you want to become.”
