How Authors Develop A Growth Mindset

“Today there are a total of 16.5 million millionaires around the world who have amassed an astonishing $63.5 trillion.”

This is a line from a new book, Future Proofing You: Twelve Truths For Creating Opportunity, Maximizing Wealth, and Controlling Your Destiny in an Uncertain World, by Jay Samit, a former CEO of a NASDAQ-traded company.

Let’s narrow the question to writers: How do authors future-proof themselves?

One needs insight and perseverance to succeed, according to the author. He believes one must have a growth mindset. “Believing in your ability to succeed is the key to becoming future- proof; writes Samit. “Self-perception is more important than any other factor in predicting success.”

One way to succeed is to have a unique or different book -- ot to market it in a new way.

“I try to avoid competition for as long as possible,” writes Samit. “You will win every race as long as you are the only runner on the track. To increase my chances of winning, I go where there aren’t any competitors.”

He adds: “I live by the adage ‘Be the best at what you do or the only one doing it.’

The author suggests there are six techniques for developing the growth mindset, including these:

1. Stop failing and start learning.

If something doesn't work, move on to another approach. Learn from your mistakes and feel you are one step closer to success.

2. Don’t look for the approval of others. Instead, cultivate their criticism.

Instead of seeking perfection and praise, and as a result not pushing limits, reach beyond your comfort zone. Seek to fail and grow.

3.                  Track your progress with a journal.

What gets measured gets better. It’s good to examine what you did, what worked, and what didn’t. This allows you to track progress and to see which strategies work or need to be boosted or dismissed.

4.             Focus inwardly and not on your image.

Ignore those who want you to fail or put pressure on you. You need to quietly focus on your internal voice to seek direction – and not look to merely please others.

5.                  Learn and grow from the mistakes of others.

When others make errors, you can benefit by observing and not by making them yourself.

6.             Practice gratitude.

Be thankful for your accomplishments, resources, and support.

“With a growth mindset, you teach yourself to reframe every negative thought into a potentially good thing,” says Samit,

“Instead of thinking, I tried and I failed,” ask yourself, “Are there other strategies I could try?” start embracing obstacles as opportunities.”
