I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, prosperous, and peaceful New Year! In the spirit of paying it forward, as I celebrate my 4,000th blog post, I am happy to announce that anyone can email me a question regarding book publicity and marketing -- and I will be happy to answer it at no charge.
That's right, free advice from a leading book marketer who makes a living off of charging for his guidance, resources, strategies, and connections. My career dates back to 1989 – book editor, author, publicist, marketer. I have worked with wildly popular best-selling authors and first-time, self-published unknowns. Everyone needs help.
Of course, I can't give you too detailed of an answer -- time wouldn't permit -- but happy to help in any way I can. And, of course, if you like what you hear, maybe you will hire me to do additional work.
As a baseball-loving kid growing up in 1970s Brooklyn, New York, I loved a column by Red Smith that was entitled Ask Red. Anyone could write to him and ask him a baseball history question. He would publish some of the letters and answers in his newspaper column -- but he would also answer every letter he received and mail you a response. He used to send letters with a distinctive look. The typeface from his old typewriter had a DNA seemingly only attachable to him. The one-time New York Times writer was put into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
According to Wikipedia: "Smith’s journalistic career spanned over five decades and his work influenced an entire generation of writers. In 1976, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Author David Halberstam called Smith "the greatest sportswriter of two eras."
