Interview With Author Robert D. Sollars

1. What really inspired you to write your book, to force you from taking an idea or experience and conveying it into a book?

I have been committed to protecting lives & property for nearly 4 decades. Workplace Violence has been my main specialty since 1991. I felt that I’ve been placed on this blue marble to help protect lives and prevent the trauma that accompanies these incidents. This is my 2nd book on the subject & with so many changes in the field since the 1st one…

2. What is it about and whom do you believe us your targeted reader

The book takes in a number of items that can assist any organization to prevent violence in it. You can never prevent all of it, but by knowing where workplace violence occurs (it may surprise you), knowing the warning signs of a perpetrator, & other items you can minimize the effects. While it was written for supervisors/managers/executives, it can be used by all employees to assist management & security to prevent an incident.

3. What do you hope will be the everlasting thoughts for readers who finish your book? What should remain with them long after putting it down?

Hopefully, they will see this as a much more serious problem than the virus and other issues that they confront every day. Workplace violence is glossed over by the media, mainly because they don’t recognize exactly what workplace violence actually is and where it occurs. I want people to read this book, act upon its principles, and protect lives of everyone concerned…from the victim to the families that will be left traumatized by an incident.

4. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers?

Keep writing and never stop. I spend roughly 8 – 12 hours a day at the computer writing and preparing for seminars & etc. Of those hours, at least half are devoted to writing, whether it be fiction, non-fiction, or poetry. Keep writing & never stop.

5. What trends in the book world do you see and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading?

I truly believe that it’s moving towards the self-publishing area. The major houses can’t hope to print some of the best books that are self-published out there. Therefore, for good or ill, the self-publishing industry will continue to thrive and expand.

6. What great challenges did you have in writing your book?

My greatest challenge is my education! I nearly failed high school English classes, passed with a D<. I write what I need to, spell check and read it over and send it off to a professional editor to be finished.

7. If people can only buy one book this month, why should it be yours?

They should this book for educational reasons so that they can assist the organization to recognize and prevent these incidents. With more than 15 million incidents a year, between schools & businesses, it’s imperative that everyone know what and how to look for the potential of violence within the organization.

About the author: Robert has nearly 4 decades in the security field. Since going blind in 2003, he has continued on his quest to protect lives at home, school, & all organizations, including those with disabilities…sometimes with unusual or revolutionary ideas. This is his 4th book and 3rd on security issues. For more info, please see: www.facebook.com/robertdsollars
