1. What inspired you to write this book? Over the years when I was active on Facebook I would post encouraging words that the Lord would place on my heart. As I received the word I would then share in hopes of helping another. One day a friend reached out and stated that my posts have been an encouragement to her when she really needed it. I then began asking myself if one person has been helped by this, how can I reach many more? I don't have many followers on social media but I prayed for a way to reach more and one day the idea of writing a devotional came to my mind. Devotionals have been of help to me over the years so I wanted a way to give back and help others.
2. What exactly is it about and who
is it written for? This book is a Christian daily devotional that is intended to
encourage one in their walk with the Lord, remind readers of Christ's love for
them and who they are in the eyes of Jesus.
3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? That regardless of where they are in their walk with the Lord, to know that they are not alone in it. We are all a work in progress.
4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? Book title was based on my experience over the years as a believer in Jesus Christ. I have learned that as a believer we are not exempt from trials and tribulations. In moments where it seemed as if I was alone in my pain, the Lord reminded me, He was with me, carrying me in those moments that felt unbearable. The title stemmed from that reminder. The cover design signifies the transformation process as a new believer. As a butterfly's transformation evolves from the start of a caterpillar to the cocoon to the result of a beautiful butterfly, we too have a transformation process that involves us growing as we go through life lessons which ultimately prunes us into this beautiful butterfly.
5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? Step out in faith while afraid. Faith should always be over fear. If you know the Lord has called you to write, know that He is with you every step of the way and will equip you with all that you need. You may make mistakes but it is ok. Mistakes are inevitable. Afterall, you are human and you learn and grow from those mistakes. It is part of the process.
6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading? The trend I see in the book world is that the book world is ever evolving as technology evolves. We started with hardcover and paperback books to now ebooks, audiobooks. Although I do not know the stats regarding which book format is more popular over another, I do believe that Ebooks and audiobooks may be more of the trend now and increasing in numbers. Between the price of hardcover/paperback vs an Ebook, the latter is more affordable and I can see how the publishing industry can grow more in this area. However, there is still a good portion of people who prefer the actual hardcopy/ paperback copy as I do in some cases. There is something about having an actual physical copy of a fresh new book in your hands.
7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book? Yes, there were experiences in my personal life and career that came handy in writing my first book. Some examples would be heartbreaks, to insecurities to name a few which have been used for a greater purpose of helping those who may be in these exact seasons of their life.
8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing similar to? Honestly these two questions are hard for me to answer due to I being a new author. I have yet to learn what my style is and whose writing it may be similar to. I have stepped into the unknown expecting to learn and grow in my writing.
9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? Some of the challenges I overcame in writing this book were my insecurities and my fear of the unknown.
10. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? Because it comes from a sincere heart. My writing includes some personal experiences that others can relate to.
