1. What inspired you to write this book? My diversity of experiences (farm to city living; poor to middle class; educated in Brazil and the U.S.; culturally influenced by Brazil, U.S., and Asia - Pacific; professional experience in business… 30 years and academia..12 years) inspired me to write this autobiography with a co-author Dalene Bickel.
2. What exactly is it about and who is it written for? It is about my life and the importance of imagination. I am a fan of Albert Einstein who wrote: “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” The book is written for anyone who is seeking to improve their lot.
3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? The book, through its many passages, is expected to inspire people to differentiate themselves through imagination.
4. How did you decide
on your book’s title and cover design? Thinking of Einstein’s saying and influenced by my university’s
history book.
5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? Stay focused and do something about the idea of a book every day.
6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading? One trend which I highlight in the book is the importance of free speech. I believe free speech is critical for the survival of democracy. As for the book publishing industry the explosion of self-publishing is something that is changing the industry significantly.
7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book? My ability to stay focused on goals which I had set for myself both in business and academia were critical.
8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing similar to? Engaging and open.
9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? Staying focused.
10. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? It is inspirational…some of the stories talk about imagination driving my success, some were the result of very hard work, some were brought by pure luck.
About The Author: Born and raised in Brazil; champion of leadership, imagination and excellence; believer in power of education and free speech.
