1. What inspired you to write this book?
I feel that there is a need to revive art
in America, now more than ever. The gradual loss of art and music
programs in schools due to budgetary constraints diminish how we see and
interact with the world. Poetry is one of the most beautiful ways to
combine art and music into relatable stories that stir emotions. To take
poetry to the next level requires great effort that is not easily found today;
creating a complete and epic story in rhyme. Delfi was created out of
love for epic poetry such as Wadsworth’s' "Hiawatha" and the
fantasy-adventure of Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings". It delivers
both the rhythm and emotion of poetry and the exhilaration of adventure and
expresses the true definition of courage; that courage isn't the absence of
fear but the willingness to face the challenge despite it.
2.
What exactly is
it about — and who is it written for?
I wrote “Delfi” for all ages. It is a fast-paced fantasy
adventure in the ilk of “Lord of the Rings” but it is more than just an
adventure. It is also a coming-of-age story intertwined with deeper
lessons about love, heroism, and redemption. Synopsis: Once
upon a time, fairies and trolls roamed the world and mankind was a friend to
all. The world was at peace. Then, great battles ensued for the
right to rule the earth. Blackgaard, whose strength was unequaled and
whose greed was without bounds, vanquished all who stood before him. In
such a world in turmoil could two beings, as different as the sun and the moon,
find love and defeat the evil about to envelope them?
That.....is the story of Delfi
3.
What
do you hope readers will get out of reading your book?
I hope that readers will feel the emotion behind this
fantasy-adventure and identify with the main characters. The lessons that
can be learned from this book are that love comes to all who can hope and
dream, despite our differences and that being a hero is not something we strive
for, but is borne from the challenges we must face.
4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover
design?
The title, “Delfi”, was derived from a dream I had about a
mythical kingdom and the cover was designed to depict love and hope in an
otherwise chaotic world.
5.
What
advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!
LOL! My advice is simple and direct. If you deeply
feel the passion of your creation, keep developing it until you can inspire
others to feel it too. Then rewrite it until no one wants to put your
book down.
6. Were there experiences in your
personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book?
Growing up in the Bronx, in a tough
neighborhood, was my motivation to overcome obstacles and realize my dreams to
reach the pinnacle of my career yet maintain the values that my parents
instilled in me.
7. How would you describe your writing style?
Which writers or books is your writing similar to?
I’ve written across many genres,
including poetry, action-adventure novels, scientific books on health,
and even screenplays and musical comedies. I try not to mold myself after
anyone else’s style but, when it comes to fiction, I tend to develop a movie in
my head and then transcribe it to the written page.
8. How do you feel your book compares to others
in your genre?
A cross between epic poetry like “The
Song of Hiawatha”and the quick metered rhyming of Dr. Seuss”
9. What challenges did you overcome in the
writing of this book?
I had to write this epic poem between my
work as a physician. It took several years to complete.
10. If people can buy or read one book this week
or month, why should it be yours?
Because this book can be easily read in a
day and by the entire family. In fact, the entire family can gather
together and enjoy it being read out loud.
