14 Ways To Market Your Book Successfully

In my 32 years of promoting authors and marketing thousands of books, I’ve come to learn and live out many pearls of wisdom. Perhaps they will help you as well.

  1. No is a delayed yes. Never take no for an answer. Just come back with a better pitch or a greater offer. You’ve received a no because they have not yet heard you say something that wins them over.
  1. Take action every day and stay focused. No great success today entitles a day off tomorrow. No huge failure earns you pity points to not try harder tomorrow. Hard work, creativity, gumption, and luck will make you a success.
  1. Grab the low-hanging fruit most of the time, but dream big and further 10-20% of the time. This allows you to have moderate success and a decent chance to break through.
  1. Take acting over thinking. It’s important to think, debate, analyze and discuss, but above all you must act. Nothing should delay action.
  1. Passion and confidence can beat fear. Focus on the solution, not the problem. See obstacles as opportunities.
  1. Be goal-oriented. Always know what you are trying to accomplish so that you can put in the right effect and focus it.
  1. Build momentum. Look to achieve even small things. One win leads to another. Success begets success.
  1. Take a contrarian approach. Don’t always accept things as they are. Seek the opposite view or strategy in order to break from the herd.
  1. Remove negative friends or employees or vendors. People who fail or who exhibit negative energy or speak pessimistically need to be removed from your circle.
  1. Remain confident despite a setback. It shall pass. Don’t expect perfection. Keep moving forward, no matter what.
  1. Look to outdo yourself. You compete with yourself. Always strive for improvement.
  1. Stay focused on the prize. Don’t get distracted.
  1. To become successful, you call upon your network skills, ideas, experiences, and passion. Keep doing those things once you experience success.
  1. Think positively. Be optimistic and see the potential in something or someone. Everyday holds new possibilities. See the potential upside, not just the warts.
