How Can Authors Sound Interesting To Others?

1.      Reveal some news or show how your book offers insights on things people are reading about today.

2.      Where possible, link your book to the things that people care most about – sex, money, health, family, security, fun, and faith.

3.      Speak with clarity and focus – short and to the point.

4.      Look for tie-ins between your book and the person or group you are approaching. Be relevant to them.

5.      Drop names if they are big enough – experts in the field, celebrities or whomever has a big title or known name.

6.      Share how you help them get ahead, resolve or avoid problems, or gain an advantage over others. Make them need you.

7.      Don’t lie, misrepresent or overhype yourself. People get turned off by ego-centric fakers.

8.      Sound confident, not desperate. Act as if you operate from a position of strength and let them feel that you are a moving train heading somewhere and that they should want to hop on now!

9.      Avoid gimmicks, come-on lines, or recycled ideas.

10.  Don’t speak in a manner that is condescending, rude or abrupt. Have a pleasant dialogue and use a level of vocabulary that is clean and appropriate.
