I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For

U2, my favorite band of all-time, has a stirring song with a haunting line: “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.”

That is me.

Many people don’t even know what they are looking for. Others have given up. And others don’t realize they are on a journey of seeking.

I am curious about life and want to obtain the formula that explains how to best live life individually and collectively — and that explains why we are here. This is a quest that seems to call upon the philosophical, psychological, spiritual, physical, and political realms, one that I have yet to find definitive answers to.

What do I want when I read political commentary that directly agrees or disagrees with me, where issues are argued but not always fairly explored?

What is supposed to come up in searching for news that will make me see the world in a better, different, or life-affirming way?

What do I accomplish when I go from one humorous meme or video clip to another?

What am I searching for when I go on Instagram to hunt down what I think is an image of the hottest woman posed in a very seductive way?

When I watch a movie or take in a show, what is the desired outcome from such an experience?

I seek truth, justice, ideas, and purpose in the books that I read and the words that I write. I still haven’t found what I am looking for, but I will keep trying and most definitely will lean heavily on books to show me the way.
