Interview With Author Judy Owens

1.      What inspired you to write this book?

As an avid reader, I have read several books that had a storyline parallel to my life experience. These stories had a great impact in my perception on life lessons I gained from personal experience. In paying it forward, my hope in writing A Thirst That Never Ceases is to enrich the life of the reader by sharing some of my life experiences as a fictional story.

2.      What is the story is about?

The story is about how a family of faith believers handle real-life relatable experiences that became boisterous life storms. At times their faith was challenge by the calamity felt from the pain of the boisterous experience. Through all the trials and tribulations, they learned to lean on each other in love. They also learned because of God’s love, that falling in love with God is not about falling in love with religion but in relationship with him.

3.      What did you hope readers would get from your book?

I hope that readers understand from reading A Thirst That Never Ceases that no one is exempt from trials, tribulations, or calamity regardless of their religious or nonreligious belief. I hope that they would see, through the power of belief that there is a spiritual energy that is greater than any boisterous storm they experience in life. And although this spiritual energy doesn’t take away the storm, it stands with them through the storm protecting and helping them to become more than conquerors by not allowing the storm to destroy them.

4.      How did you decide on the book cover and title?

When deciding on the title I immediately though about Jesus’ conversation with a Samarian woman at Jocob’s well in John chapter 4 of the bible. For Jesus declare to the woman that the living water he gives, she shall never thirst. The living water represent everlasting life; eternal life that only God can give. On earth the thirst never ceases, we thirst for money, fame, careers, the latest trend in clothing and the list goes on. Earthly thirst can become a battlefield in the mind, because the more we drink the more we thirst, increasing the battlefield. The title is indicative of the story line. The water on the cover represent the living water Jesus gives as well as the earthly water that we thirst for daily. The main character in the story name is Rose.

5.      What advice do you have for fellow writers?

I would encourage other writers to follow their passion; their heart desires when it comes to writing a book. The drive that comes from passion will override those moments when one becomes their own worst enemy with sabotaging thoughts like, “why am I doing this? Who wants to hear my story? What if no one buys my book? There is a satisfaction of accomplishment in having your book in print and published regardless of the outcome.

6.      What trends in the book world do you see?

I think it is too soon coming out of Covid to differentiate this new trend in the book world. During Covid people were trying to make sense of the worldwide pandemic by reading and listening to audio books that were spiritual in contents.

7.      Are there personal and career experiences that came in handy when writing your book?

Personal and career life both came in handy when writing this book. I am a very focus and dedicated person when it comes to completing a project or tasks assigned to me. My work ethics started at the age of 12 with my first summer job. I worked every summer to purchase school clothes. Therefore, I have a do not quit mentality until the job is done.

8.      How do you describe your writing style?

In my youth, I read all Maya Angelou books. I loved how she painted a picture in her writing. She was very descriptive in writing. Her writing was like watching a movie in print.  I aim to paint that same picture as I write.

9.      Any challenges that you had to overcame in writing this book?

Throughout my school years, I was very superior in math. English courses were always challenging for me. I was a “A” student in math from elementary arithmetic to college calculus as well as in Chemistry. I was barely passing with a “C” in English. I had to encourage myself by saying you are writing conversation, just be yourself. To my surprise the editor had very little to edit.

10.  Why should someone read your book?

Reading my book would empower, uplift, and encourage the reader. The storyline is very captivating in resolution.
