Don’t Waste Mental Calories When Marketing Your Book

Whenever a new year approaches, many of us tend to commit to new resolutions or recommit to old ones. The popular ones usually involve losing weight or better health, changing or improving a career, getting into or out of a relationship, and moving or traveling. For authors, it is to take ownership of their writing life: finish writing that book, pursuing its publication, and marketing the heck out of it.

Are you ready to make and keep your promise?

The key here is to take action. No more wasting time on just thinking, researching, questioning, or avoiding things. Act! Now!

Stop wasting mental calories by worrying, debating, dreaming, or planning things. Stop playing Hamlet, laboring over your next move, crippled by inaction. Act! Now!

I know it is not easy to take the next step forward, that measurable movement towards doing and no longer deliberating with yourself. But aren’t you sick and tired of being on the sidelines, a mere spectator to nothing, a witness to your inertia? If you do not take action and do something, anything, you are not safe or undefeated. You are losing, badly. Act! Now!

I would rather you act, fail, then adjust, fail, even try again, and just maybe, break through. You don’t win by doing nothing. Act! Now!

I know you know this, and yet, here we are, with you itching as you read this call to action. Stop
avoiding, evading, and hiding — instead, run towards your fate. Embrace book marketing now, without delay or denial.

Thinking, by itself, is really not doing anything.
Contemplating without getting to a conclusion is not reflective of you taking action. The only thing left for you to do is act.

Do one or more of these activities below. Next week. No, tomorrow. Nope, today. Right Now!

Here are 15 possible steps to take:

1. Call someone who can do you a favor.

2. Text friends and family to have them post an amazon review

3. Email potential book buyers

4. Speak at a bookstore, library, or somewhere

5. Buy professional book reviews

6. Post on social media

7. Build, edit, or expand your website

8. Write blog posts

9. Apply to book awards

10. Send press releases to the news media

11. Donate your books to a cause

12. Give copies away for people to post reviews

13. Join and participate in a writers association

14. Network at a public event

15. Find a collaborator to sell your book with their book, product, or service

No lame excuses. Act!

Now!
