Do you actually:
1. Write books that are better than most? How much
better than how many others?
2. Read the reviews your book has received and
take to heart the criticism as much as you do the praise?
3. Get jealous at the success of other authors and
make excuses as to why they broke through while you languish?
4. Remain open-minded about what needs to be done
to promote your book or do you set limitations as to what you are willing to do
to help yourself? Are you undermining your potential success because of
limiting beliefs, fears, biases, hang-ups, or ignorance?
5. Put in time to market your book? How much time?
6. Take a smart approach to your marketing? How
creative and strategic is it?
7. Do the things that others fail to do? Will you
do what others can’t or won’t?
8. Assess the marketing landscape and analyze what
your best options are? Do you then execute such things, either by outsourcing
or doing them on your own — or some measure of both?
9. Beg people for favors, trade for favors, borrow
resources, or ask for help? Do you initiate, negotiate and navigate towards
your goals or do you merely hope to get discovered and only react to things?
10. Have an opportunistic mindset, seeking to
create opportunities to sell, market, and promote — or do wait to be asked,
told, or presented with an offer?
Who have you been until now? Who do you want to
be? The past shapes us, but does not have to be our future.
What kind of author do you want to be?

fourth-rate readers.” --Stan Barstove, 20th Century English Novelist

it.” --Oscar Wilde
