1. What motivated you to write your book, to force you from taking an idea or experience and turning it into a book? My father who is fictionalized as Irv in the book had recently passed and COVID had begun. I had been represented by an entertainment attorney in Los Angeles so while working at one of the first streaming media companies before YouTube I had created what was at first a short story about a man named Caleb Hanau just before leaving for Fort Lee.
2. What is it about and who is it for? It really is for anyone who wants to know what it is like to work on one of the most notorious firms on Wall Street in Media and Healthcare and how the book is right on as Caleb predicted it would be acquired by a UK firm and the very talent agency he was offered a job with when he first arrived in L.A. now after the stock market crash is now in the exact same building. representing the best in music and talent. There is a business plan on Chapter 14 for instance that Caleb or me for that matter had developed while a student at New York University Stern. It was also before what we soon would see with businesses like Kozmo.com, Urban Fetch, and even Amazon which brought music and songs to your home.
3. What do you hope the reader will be left with after reading it? That there is actual hope and sometimes coincidences can be frightening and exciting.
4. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers? Work with people who have an interest in the end goal and have a mutual interest.
5. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading? What I have learned as I just purchased 3 new books in the last few days is that everyone has a story to tell and everyone is unique. Book publishing has changed significantly and really it sometimes becomes a matter of self-promotion and while that's fine I wrote it as a business plan as I find that books with a plan sometimes might have a greater future.
6. What challenges did you overcome to write this book? Many challenges and I was very fortunate to meet some of the people who helped guide the way on this first book.
7. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? It is very timely and relevant to what has happened with artists' development, discovery, and research as it is almost parallel to the adaptations in the healthcare industries. Music is much stronger than healthcare and we all need a great story about music.
About The Author: David Citron hopes to be an everyman as he started his work on Wall Street at the World Trade Center working for Dean Witter, Merrill Lynch and then the other side of the Chinese Wall of corporate finance in media and healthcare at Lehman Brothers. He also founded several online firms including Creative Capital Works and Pipeline-Entertainment in the 90s. He has since then worked for talent agencies on both coasts, been an insurance for multiple firms that merged just as he had predicted in a movie he produced and directed entitled "Modernization."
