You get what you project. If you put out sadness, fear, anger, or boredom, you get it right back at you. Misery loves company. Would it not be better to draw people in with smiles, confidence, love, and excitement?
What do you offer? What
do you project?
They go hand in hand. Take your strengths and
assets and push them forward. Put forth an image of the person you believe you
are. How you act — and see yourself — will greatly influence how people see and
treat you. If you give off a good vibe, you get it right back at you.
So, what is your lead personality trait? Do you
come off as knowledgeable and informative? Experienced? Resourceful? Energetic?
An interesting story-teller? Inspiring?
Do you speak or give off the body language of a
person who is: confident? Witty? Mysterious?
Unpredictable?
What you say — and how you say it — matters,
especially when you are an author hawking a book. Think about what image,
brand, or persona you want to project. It should come naturally — to be who you
are — but it must remain front and center always. That means you can’t go
off-script. Be consistent in whom you project.
Authors need to marry personality and ideology
with morality and reality. Think about what you want people to do. Then craft a
message and image that appeals to those you seek to influence. Present yourself
the way people need to see and hear you, plain and simple.
