recently posted a blog about 20 ways to generate book sales. It was a
resounding success. Here, upon popular demand, are 33 additional things you
could -- and should -- do to help you grow your book sales.
1. Don’t try to be a perfectionist. It’ll cripple you. Always be doing something, rather than analyzing and worrying from the sidelines of book marketing.
2. Look for shortcuts. No reason to re-invent the wheel or do things that fail to yield a big enough pay-off. Find ways to do the minimum that yield maximum results. Evaluate the steps, procedures, and standards that you employ -- can we reduce or remove 10% of them? Maybe more?
3. Leave no room for fear-based paralysis. Be willing to try and fail. Then try again. Jump in and start swimming.
4. Meet your deadline. Always set deadlines. Keep things moving and keep pushing past your expectations.
5. Execute time management skills. Plan shit out. Don’t procrastinate and undermine yourself. See who can help you. Cut corners. Focus only on the things with big-yield potential.
6. Have you paid for things that can work for you, such as paid book reviews, advertising, and sponsored posts from influencers?
7. Are you blogging or podcasting? Get started.
8. Are you guest-blogging and guest-posting on other people’s social media?
9. Are you inviting guest-posts and guest-blogs from those with large followings?
10. Have you made multiple podcasts, books, and services available for sale at your site?
11. Do you have people signed on to be your book sale affiliates?
12. Are you working with fellow authors to share marketing costs, exchange book review, get moral support from, and obtain strategic advice from?
13. Have you uncovered one or more worthy news hooks that you can use to pitch targeted news media outlets?
14. Have you rented, purchased, or researched a quality news media contacts list?
15. Do you have a book marketing plan for the short - and long- term?
16. Have you made a list of keywords to help your site’s SEO?
17. Have you developed a good list of hashtags for social media?
18. Are you attending in-person networking events?
19. Do you maintain and grow a mailing list?
20. Do you have a stockpile of free images for your social media, website, blog, etc.?
21. Have you started getting pre-orders for your book, months before its scheduled release?
22. Have you tried selling the rights to your book -- foreign, audio. film, theater, etc.?
23. Have you clearly identified who your targeted readers are -- and how to appeal to them? Or, how to find them?
24. Are you experimenting by rotating the price of your book?
25. Have you given your e-book out for free for periods of time?
26. Did you identify comparable authors -- and then look at their site, social media and marketing to see what you can rip off?
27. Are you fully motivated, ready, willing, and able to market your book to its ultimate conclusion?
28. Do you understand why you wrote this book -- and why you are marketing it?
29. Is your Amazon Author Central page working? Are you on NetGalley?
30. Have you tried giving away other items in order to inspire people to buy your book?
31. Have you tried bundling your book with another book or product or service?
32. Did you ask local bookstores, libraries, or churches to have you come and speak about your book?
33. Have you traded, begged, paid, blackmailed, threatened, or incentivized friends, family, and colleagues to buy your book- and to help sell it to those whom they might know?
