Do writers realize the rich opportunity before them, that they can get published today if they choose to. No tests, no licensing fees, no schooling is required. Just write!
I am amazed:
That one could be a SCOTUS justice without
attending law school, passing the bar, or be a practicing lawyer or judge.
How one could be Speaker of the House and not be a
Congressman.
That one can be elected our nation’s president
without having served in any elective office, the military, or even worked in
government at any level.
How someone can be a billionaire CEO without
graduating college.
All of these things are possible, many of which
have already happened. Some of the biggest jobs in America require little of
their applicants.
There is more good news: Anyone can write,
publish, and promote a book. People can just simply choose to be authors and
they can make it so. No formal training is needed. No requirements have to be
met. No licensing standards must be fulfilled. No permission is required
from anyone.
There are more stringent regulations for people
who want to become barbers, taxi drivers, and manicurists then there are for
United States president, a SCOTUS judge, or the Speaker of the House — or
authors.
Writers should revel in knowing that what they do
is important, rewarding, and fun — and that they don’t need much more than a
pad or laptop, an idea, and a dream to turn a concept into a book. Writers can
accomplish a lot — and nothing nor no one can stand in their way.
You don’t have to beg the publishing gatekeepers
to publish you. Publish yourself. You don’t have to solicit the news media for
attention. Make your own noise on social media. You don’t have to ask for
charity or rely on anyone else. You can launch your book and promote it with
speaking events, advertising, and other means that you can initiate or create.
You are a writer because you write. Nothing else is
needed.
