Interview With Author B.E Thompson

 

  

1. What inspired you to write this book? I was inspired by my faith and love for God, also my love for reading and flowers which is why I mirrored my life journey with the life span of a flower!! 

2. What exactly is it about and who is it written for? It is a story (Memoir) about my life journey. It is written for anyone who is looking for hope who may have had a difficult start in life and are seeking to know their purpose, hopefully my story will help people know that they can accomplish their goals no matter how things were in the early days of childhood!! 

3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? I hope people will be able to connect with the idea that It’s not where you start in life, its where you finish that really counts! Along with, hope, awareness of different struggles and the importance of self-care, an improved trust in God for those who have a faith-based life and for those who are curious about God! I hope that people can realize that carrying emotional wounds from childhood into adulthood is not a life sentence, with awareness, self-compassion and support, it is possible to heal these wounds and change these behavioral patterns. 

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? The title was something that came to me first, many years before deciding to write the book I thought of the title and wrote it down. I was not aware of its significance at the time. I really like flowers so designed the book around the title with help from my publishers. 

5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? Keep running:)... Believe in your story and do not let anyone else hold the pen! 

6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading?  I see so many great books and feel the book world has exploded with many great authors which is nice! Hopefully the publishing industry can evolve with the times, keeping it viable and strong for the future. 

7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book?  Definitely, I had many experiences in my personal life from a child and in my career as an adult that I was able to use whilst writing the book. All these experiences are mentioned and played out in the book by 'Karen' my main characters perspective. 

8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing similar to? I would probably say the book is a narrative writing style, my book is actual events told in chronological order but this is also created in a timeline illustrated on the growth of a flower. I am not sure which writers or books my writing is similar to but I guess anyone who writes a memoir or biography. 

9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? The challenges for me was being able to overcome the fact that I am dyslexic, so designing a structured time line was important to keep me on track and focused whilst receiving assistance with editing from my publishers. 

10. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? My book is not very long so won't take up too much of someone's time but I promise in that time the reader will go through a rollercoaster of emotions that unveil my life journey in a vivid and resonating way. I think my book makes the unfamiliar feel more familiar by touching on the vulnerabilities and hopes that I believe connects us all. Hopefully, this will make the reader certain that through the withered weeds of life, flowers can truly blossom into petals of achievements whilst allowing what was in the dark to  become the light a person can use to help them to shine.
