The Author’s Escape Room

 


You ever join a group of people and try to get out of an Escape Room? It is an experience similar to being an author. 

In case you are not familiar with the concept, you pay money to join others in trying to get out of a locked room. Players need to collaborate and work together to uncover clues, solve puzzles, and progress through the game.  Communication, patience mixed with a sense of urgency, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential for success, as players will need to use logic, knowledge, and creativity to figure out each mini-challenge. 

Authors, like Escape Room participants, must: 

* Be observant and alert.

* Know that you already have all that you need.

* Work as a team.

* Never stop looking for a solution even when frustrated.

* Reread the clues to success until you hear them differently.

* Keep trying and never give up.

* Focus on the prize/goal and feel inspired.

* Know that there is definitely a way out and a correct path to seek.

* See how one success builds on another and leads to bigger things.

Who Do Authors Listen To?

 


When authors launch a book, whom do they consult with for guidance and advice?

Likely, just people close to them — a spouse, sibling, parent or adult child, perhaps. Maybe they confide in some friends or work colleagues. Most do not get one-on-one professional advice. Why?

Why don’t they hire a pro for guidance?

It Costs Money — and too many authors are penny wise and pound foolish.

Lack Convenience — they have no time (and too lazy) to go somewhere to seek help.

Attend A Webinar/Conference
— they may attend a group setting online or in-person at a nearby event, but they are not interacting one-on-one with a trained professional who is focused just on the author’s book.

Watch A YouTube Video or Read A Blog Post — sure, one can get free advice but you need to know where to go, whom to trust, and you must feel that you learned enough to do things correctly on your own.

Every author would benefit from a number of personal, targeted, focused, and customized consultations on strategy and the execution of a solid book marketing plan.

Too many mistakes, a lack of knowledge, and bad timing can conspire to do a book in and leave an author heart broken — and poorer in the wallet.

I highly recommend that authors seek the help of a trained, experienced, and savvy book marketing coach. Hint, hint!
