Interview With Author Blessing Omoye Adewunmi

 

  

 

 

 

1. What inspired you to write this book? Life itself taught me something. I was write typing this story while in an Uber car going to work. I thought of my life when growing up and Jabez came up in my thoughts being similar. I grew to be kind of keep to myself and tried or afraid to make friends and at times blame myself for something. And when I tried hard to help I end up spoiling things or someone can't make sense of it which is not intentional. And I see people become something. I know inside me want to a cry out and roar but is quiet seeing realities of life itself. I prayed and prayed. And like Jab'z would have face worse and yet he later got it, one prayer over many prayers. And his story took a great turn. God indeed heard him.

 

2. What exactly is it about and who is it written for? With above stated Is about the world of a boy, a man who want to be accepted but rejected or put aside, talk down, in silent pain within, emotional torture, pretend what is not and funny enough family unknowingly distancing him even if they are under the same roof.  Is written for all and how they view, think reason and understand it. And for kids and the teenagers too to know in their struggle, is not late and be patience and improve, all will turn out right.

 

3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? Assurance, Perseverance and Conviction, not matter how the storms come there will be calmness which will make one humble, thereby looking up to the main Maker, the Potter who make to change the whole life around, and those bullied to stand firm is not easy but see inwards don't listen to all that's thrown at you. Jab'z thought of so many options, there comes a counselor, someone who got his attention. I pray your helpers come by. Speak out. Let go let God. Your name is not it, it's the image of God you are made of. Don't forget that. 

 

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design?  Many at times we speak of Jabez but I love it Jab'z in short and kids even some teens would like fun names. My kids loves when I called their name in short not common but nice" and the cover Design which is the main character his humble self.

 

5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? Before filling or writing out this I was nervous at first, I have written many books but in pen form yet to be put out there some I lost them and no finance to publish. I picked up again to try again. I was told it will never work and I feared and thought will one go without just putting out one to reach out there to someone even one to read what is in my heart to share. I teach in Sunday school I say Bible stories I never imagined that will make people not just kids smile and from their faces seems they are in my imagination adventures and it stayed in their hearts for as long as they could remember which they have heard and read from the Bible but it showed them in it. It took me time to decide I can do this. So, you can. When there's a will like I learned there's a way.

 

6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading?  I see possibilities I didn't see before I see it now how is going, I don't know. I know it will get to someone and with technology going so vast and fast if there's way people who are not opportune will see their books(them) being out there like the clouds and someone interest will be caught to view and read it.

 

7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book? Yes, there was and there is. I came from a humble background but as things turn out come from a home so broken that I didn't know myself till I try coming out of my shadow I have been hiding in pretense and my parents didn't even know me well nor my pretense, am shy, at home am loud but when my parents are around am quiet am held responsible for most things even when I don't maybe because am their first child, I sometimes felt the love but sometimes don't. Confused and am left with my siblings figure out what to do or think. I longed for a thumbs up and I always do things by accident too when I try to help. Even I thought my name was not right how can one have such good name and yet be the opposite.

Outside there I lead I may not be recognized, and I worked hard and when I get something maybe because am timid will get it later or remembered later or forgotten. I remember an instant when I was moved to another school, I did great academically and a church our family attended, once in a year will honor or award those who were top in their classes every year, I have not raised my hands and for parents to prove I did well. This particular year I rose my hand up. The whole children church was shocked or surprised and asked several times and confirmed from my parents with my school results and achievements even in school activities. They gave others their awards but didn't get mine like they have counted who they would give award or gifts to and they promised but didn't even to the following year. I felt embarrassed and tried to forget about it all. It's hard, coming from church where I grew. And tried to be as happy as I can be and another forgive. Till today I remembered among others. I feel sad even for kids who are innocent facing this for no reason and it happened to one of my kids but God made it all beautiful in His way. When I read and heard about Jabez over and over again, until it clicked that God loves and has me in mind. He helped me all through the process of life when I didn't qualify. He made me qualified. Jeremiah 11:29.

 

8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing similar to? My writing style something like humor, sober reflection, relationship and descriptive and narrative way of writing. The books or writers similar to are like

 

Max Lucado, The veggies tales, Bible Man, there's one written by an elderly Grandpa he use Proverbs and wise words in all his story book I can't remember his name nor the title it's long time ago. But he will write "...that will tickle your mind and your soul...." The recent is Minno among others.  

 

9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? Challenge of not giving up, If I crawl i crawl, I walk I walk, If I jog, I jog, f I run I run, If I fly, I fly however, whatever and any way will get it done. Honestly, I don't like being stressed but this kept going. Make me different. 

 

10. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours?  I should be because is everyday life and parents don't know how their kids feel or do and when in process of training them, they thought they have a well-educated well-nurtured child but what is actually going on inside their mind is not easy to speak out and if there is a situation and they grow to be adults and the fear of the same circle of how to raise their kids and fear the same won't happen to them. This book on another part Parents be encouraged to love and cherish these kids and win their trust don't show love for one over another. And for kids who did all they know or don't will know they are not the only ones, should know someone greater is there to help. Psalm 112 :1-2. It might seem their inner pleas didn't work and want to do the imaginable and is very, very hard to relate to even their parents or besties. They have to loosen up. Be a place of quietness or place to roar out their emotions, seek right counsel, the Bible is great tool get the translated version attend good church function.
