Children's Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the U.S. (established 1919), having been enjoyed for over a century. This year it is celebrated May 4-10 and November 9-15 in 2026, aiming to foster a love of reading. Okay, so it is so good, we have two such weeks!
Organized by Every Child a Reader, it
features themed activities, posters, and events in schools, libraries, and
homes, often featuring celebrity spokespeople and renowned
authors/illustrators. This year’s theme is “Books: Get Curious” (often
represented with a poster by Grace Lin). Each of these weeks are intended to
promote the joy of reading, increasing access to books, and highlighting the
wide variety of children's literature. Some fun resources can be found
