Can You Take A Fresh Approach To Your Book Marketing?

I recently took a two-month hiatus from playing pickleball, initially to rest a balky knee and to give my body a reset. I have been playing for nearly two years — and love it. The problem is I would keep playing even when my body told me to stop and rest.  So, I committed myself to a new regimen. No more playing for two-and-a-half or three hours at a time, and no more playing three, four, or even six consecutive days.

There is a book marketing lesson here.

I have set rules for myself, as well as goals. I know my limitations, and by honoring them, I hope to play at a healthy pace for a long time. Discipline is the key.

I figured out my pickle ball body recovery and injury prevention approach boils down to these three things:

* Frequency of playing
* Duration of each event
* Intensity level of play

I decided I would not play more than two successive days, each time for no more than an hour and a half. If the games are played hard, due to a high competition level, that can take a toll on my body, so I just need to be aware of this.

The same can be true with your approach to book marketing.

Be aware of the key factors or elements of your book marketing that wear you down, mentally or physically. How frequently do you market? How much time do you put in each time? How intense are your efforts?

Authors do not like to market because they believe it takes time away from their writing, but we know they are not writing all day. They don’t like to do what feels foreign to them or what they don’t believe they are good at, but all new things take time to get used to — and practice makes perfect.

Writers just need to find a healthier balance in their relationship with book marketing. I set my parameters for pickleball success and it is working out well for me. You can find what fits your schedule’s needs and matches up best with your skills set. Book marketing can be more rewarding and take less of a toll on you than you realize.
