Bob Woodward's Book Shows Books And Free Speech Matter

Fire and Fury by Michael Wolff, Omarosa’s Unhinged, and now Bob Woodward’s Fear are three recent books to stir lots of media coverage when it comes to President Donald Trump.  What surprises me is that so many copies of each book get sold.

Now, this may sound odd coming from a book publicist, but I do think one can have too much publicity, especially when it comes to books.  When so much leaks out to the media, people may say “Why do I need to buy the book?”  And indeed, even when hundreds of thousands of copies are sold, this is true, as evidenced by hundreds of millions not buying the book.

But we all know that books, in order to sell, need buzz.  So I guess it’s a calculated risk one takes – get the buzz going and hope it inspires and not detracts one to buy the book.

Woodward’s strategy was for the book to get leaked a week prior to its on-sale date.  A week seems like an awfully long time.  Plus its release date is poorly timed for 9/11, both a day of remembrance and a major Jewish Holiday.  But those missteps aside, the books sounds like a winner, already sitting atop Amazon’s best-seller list (in pre-orders).

But what we should focus on is Trump’s scathing reaction to the book.  He summarily dismissed the book even though he hasn’t read it.  He claims Woodward has a believability issue, even though the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner broke the Watergate story.  The Criminal–in-Chief said libel laws should be strengthened.

So why doesn’t he sue Woodward?

He just needs to show Woodward intentionally lied.  Did he?

Unlikely.

Unless the libel laws get changed to say “I can sue if someone prints the truth and makes me look bad,” Trump ain’t suing – or winning such an action.

Trump has repeatedly attacked:

·         Media as fake news
·         Authors as frauds
·         Science as fiction
·         Truth as lies
·         His own cabinet for incompetence

The emperor has no clothes but until something is done about it, we need free media and authors to continue reporting the facts of how crazy, ignorant and greedy Trump really is.

Are all the books and news media reports wrong? Is everyone making shit up? Is the world nuts but he’s sane?

Ethics, the rule of law, and our media is all that we have to guide this nation on the right path. And prayer – for we must all pray that this idiot doesn’t completely destroy our nation.

Books and free speech matter. Everyone should show support and buy Woodward’s book. I may do so myself, even if all the good parts have already been reported.
