I
know authors who have done dozens of radio interviews, were featured by dozens
of bloggers, and covered by some major publications -- but registered few book
sales. There are many reasons why the sales didn’t match the quantity of media
hits. Here are some things to evaluate:
1.
Did
you perform well in your media exposure?
2.
Was
the book title mentioned often? The web site? Did you have good energy and make
strong points during your interviews?
3.
Did
you clearly explain the value of your offer? Did readers/listeners/viewers
understand why they should listen to you?
4.
Do
you use words that people don’t understand or refer to terms, events, and
people that fail to be meaningful to others?
5.
Did
you sound nervous or lacking confidence?
6.
Did
you sound likeable?
7.
Did
you sound believable?
8.
Were
you boring? Incorrect on facts? Negative sounding?
9.
Did
you fail to sound better or more valuable than your competition?
10.
Did
you give too much information away that people felt no urge to buy the book?
Of
course, other key factors in regards to book sales are:
·
Distribution
·
Cover
Appearance
·
Price
·
Competing
Books
·
Your
Credentials
So
what should you do to sell your book? There’s no one area that you need to
attack or firm up, but across the board you need to help your cause. As you
improve, each area, you are sure to grow your sales. Do your best -- and then try
harder!
