Interview With Author Kevin M. Hill

Tax Revolt

1. What really inspired you to write your book, to force you from taking an idea or experience and conveying it into a book?
As a Research Analyst restricted by confidentiality, I could not pass on information clarifying an issue or exposing outright misuse of data by political interests.  That would constitute lobbying, so fiction about such unlikely characters as Russ Limpaw, Clay Raven, Robert Patson and Sarah Cold can tell the story.  As an analyst, I believe that a writer should not be neutral, but truthful.  As a retired historian, I saw danger signs of Evaporation of E-wealth, collapse of the housing market, Emergence of what I called "the Ultras", a far right faction that seizes control of the Republican party through an angry, uninformed and misinformed electorate.

2. What is it about and whom do you believe is your targeted reader?
Those who want a glimpse at the inner workings of power politics.  Almost political science-fiction, about survival in a catastrophic collapse of society.  Those who have lost faith in representative democracy or want to understand what is happening in Republican politics.

3. What do you hope will be the everlasting  thoughts for readers who finish your book? What should remain with them long after putting it down?
I hope to show the importance of faith in the democratic institutions of the miracle of self-government.  I hope this view of the descent into anarchy will serve to restore people’s faith in representative government.

4. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers?
The importance of journalism is to be truthful, rather than neutral.

5. What great challenges did you have in writing your book?
The shear believability of a small faction taking control of a major political party.  Tax Revolt predicted the rise of the Tea Party by six months.

6. If people can only buy one book this month, why should it be yours?
Tax Revolt gives a cautionary tale that warns of the danger of losing faith in government.

Mr. Hill earned a degree in History, served as Sergeant of Special Weapons and has conducted research for State and Federal Government for 30 years.  He is author of two books on military history: The Undefeated, Rearguard in Vietnam and The Armchair General.
