1. What inspired you
to write this book?
I became interested in the stock market as a young lad for two reasons. It represented financial opportunities and played to my fascination for how things work. As I later realized, my affinity for the stock market was a natural extension of my love for mathematics and desire to become financially independent. After spending the last few decades studying and trading common stocks, I developed strategies that minimize risk while greatly increasing potential returns for individual retail common stock investors. In fact, over the past decade I have realized annual profits of up to 45% simply by trading common stocks. My success was achieved through purchasing and selling only equities listed on major stock exchanges, and without the use of options, short selling or margins. This approach makes the strategy easy to understand and to execute.
2. What exactly is
it about and who is it written for?
Welcome to my world of stock trading. What you are about to read is the product of a rocket scientist’s half century of experience with the stock market. I am a space engineer who has applied extensive mathematical insights to the problem of achieving high gains at low levels of risk. Simply put, I am an individual retail stock trader and investor whose financial knowledge is based on hands-on experience with common stocks gained over several decades. Having come from a family with few financial assets and no money to invest, I realized early in life that creating and accumulating wealth were going to be an important part of my life and professional career.
3. What do you hope
readers will get out of reading your book?
Over a number of years, you can build a stock portfolio that can yield sufficient returns to cover all of your living expenses plus significant discretionary funds. An ultimate goal for many is to build a comfortable retirement portfolio.
4. How did you decide on your
book’s title and cover design?
I wanted to attract the exact audience for which the book is intended.
5. What advice or words of
wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!?
Three Ts: Talent, Tenacity and Timing.
6. What trends in the book
world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is
heading?
I am surprised that books have been so popular even after the development of the Internet and ebooks. I don't know much about the publishing industry so I really can't review a good idea where I think it's heading.
7. Were there experiences in
your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this
book?
The mixture of my mathematical background and my experience in stock trading have been used to develop this book and the ideas in this book. They have been successful and I wanted to share them with the readers.
8. How would you describe
your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing similar to?
My writing style it is very straightforward. My main philosophy is to write so that you cannot be misunderstood. That seems to work very well and I have been well published.
9. What challenges did you
overcome in the writing of this book?
The main challenge is putting all the ideas together in such a way that a reader can learn a lot from them. I use the fair amount of examples and real experiences to convey knowledge to the reader.
10. If people can buy or read
one book this week or month, why should it be yours?
My book is designed for the amateur stock trader who really doesn't have much time or experience in the stock market. Therefore, anyone who wants to learn about the stock market and how to trade stocks should read this book.
Marshall H. Kaplan, Ph. D. has been a stock investor for several decades and an active online stock trader since the introduction of online brokers. His professional training and experience are in engineering and mathematics. He holds advanced degrees from MIT and Stanford Universities.
