Interview With Author Daniel C. Erdely





!. What inspired me to write it?
The world I write about is a world that has changed dramatically.  I was hoping to share in a light-hearted, humorous way what that time was like and what can be learned from it.

2. What exactly is it about and who is it written for? 
It's about learning to appreciate the specialness of all kinds of people we meet. I wrote it for young people in the hope that they recognize that life's journey will be filled with ups and downs. The important thing is to keep going forward.

3. What do \you hope readers will get out of reading it?
We all have shared experiences. I compare life to a roller coaster ride full of  thrills but at the end we can say , "What a ride it was!"

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? Seasons mark changes. I went through enormous changes that made me who I am. The cover was designed by the publisher. I was hoping to use the Comet coaster from my book, but unfortunately time restraints prevented that from happening. 

5. What advice or words of wisdom would I have to other writers?
Write, write, write! Everyone has a unique and special story to tell.

6. What trends in writing do you see? Where do I thing the publishing industry is headed?
Self-publishing is now very common. Also, many books are skipping the print phase for complete digital publication. I chose a publisher that was in between self publishing and traditional. 

7. Were there any experiences in your personal life that came in handy?
The book is an embellished autobiography. The facts are true. The time frame is somewhat distorted. The experiences are real!

8. How would you describe my writing style? 
I taught special education to students who needed a lot of support and motivation. My writing style is reflective of that time and audience. I would like to write like Alexander McCall Smith who writes clear and concise sentences that carry amazing knowledge.

9. What challenges were there?
I have (had) a tendency to write with enthusiasm ignoring spelling and language rules. My wife is always reminding me of my tendency to run-on sentences. I pointed out that Hemingway once had a sentence that contained over sixty words. She sweetly reminded me that I was not Hemingway.

10. Why should people buy it?
Hopefully, to have a laugh and perhaps to recognize that we have a common humanity that is both challenging and wonderful.

About The Author: I received my Bachelor's Degree in political science and education from Gannon University and my Master's Degree from Temple University in Special Education. I taught a few years in Philadelphia and later in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Initially, I worked with emotionally disturbed teens before working with special needs students in Cherry Hill. I am married for fifty-four years to my best friend, Diane. Retiring in 2001, I have pursued my interest in birds, volunteering at New Jersey Audubon for several years before relocating to Florida. My wife and I have traveled extensively learning about different cultures and finding new birds. .
