1.
What
inspired you to write this book? I’ve written poetry and always wanted to write
a book. With the growing threat of
global warming, it occurred to me that I might increase awareness of the
dangers involved by weaving information within a good, fast paced murder conspiracy
novel. People will primarily be
entertained with the book, but in the end, they will also be better informed
about a serious threat to our home planet.
2.
What
exactly is it about and who is it written for? It’s written for anyone who
enjoys fiction novels and science fiction novels. What makes it a bit unique is that it doesn't
fit into any one category. It is a good
murder mystery and conspiracy book while at the same time it is a good science
fiction story.
3.
How
did you decide on your book's title and cover design? I titled the book “The
Survivors” because both the aliens and us (the earthlings) Are fighting for
their survival. I felt the cover design
with the spaceship hovering Over the submarine was intriguing and eye catching.
4.
What
advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? Shop
publishers who will give you good professional editing at a fair price and who
will offer the best marketing support and advice and hope but don’t expect to
make any money. Writing is truly a labor
of love.
5.
What
trends in the book world do you see – and where do you think the book
publishing industry is heading? I truly do not know and am so not qualified to
answer that question. Getting noticed
and getting your work in front of the right people is now and will continue to
be the main challenge for all the authors out there. It cost money to promote and advertise and
authors get very little for each sale, so the economics don’t add up and I
don’t know what the answer is to rectify that.
6.
Were
there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when
writing this book? Well, other than the fact that I have lived a **long** life,
being 75 years old, not really. I was in
law enforcement for a time and took courses in criminal justice so had some experience
there, and a lot Of practice witnessing human behavior by working in customer
service for many years.
7.
How
would you describe your writing style? Which
writers or books is your writing similar to? I try to immediately bring the characters
to life and make them unique and interesting and above all, real. I move things along quickly in the hope of
carrying the readers with me on my journey. I guess maybe Patricia Cornwall or
James Patterson write in a similar way. Two
of my favorite books, however, Steppenwolf and Siddhartha, were written by
Hermann Hesse.
8.
What
challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? I think just keeping
at it and not giving up. While it is not a long book at 114 pages, there were
many torn up pages and rewrites and I tried to let the story develop within me
as I wrote. I was not very methodical
and didn’t have it mapped out in advance.
It was chaos as the story developed, but I really feel that in the end
it all worked out pretty well.
9.
If
people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? Because
it is a very interesting and unique story that will keep them entertained and
turning pages while at the same time making them aware of some interesting
facts regarding a real and current threat to our planet. Global Warming!!
