1. What inspired you to write this book? Saying I had a difficult time nursing my
babies would be an understatement. Other moms going through this same challenge
inspired me. I would stay up at night with my babies, trying to soothe and
nurse, and find myself thinking entertaining thoughts. One night, I decided to
write these thoughts down alongside the images that came with it. A few years
later, my comic book inspired book came to life and is available for moms and
dads to read and enjoy. Yes, it's dad friendly too!
2. What exactly is it about and who
is it written for? The book is about taking difficult breastfeeding situations and
making them funny and amusing. It is written for moms and dads.
3. What do you hope readers will get out
of reading your book? I hope my book
inspires other moms to stick with breastfeeding. The hard times are worth it. I
want moms to pick up this book and find themselves smiling and laughing.
4. How did you decide on your book’s title and
cover design? Each page of the book
has a picture and I wanted the cover design to be one of those pictures. A baby
nursing was perfect. There are hearts on the cover and even the mom's lips are
a heart, expressing love. The title to add humor.
5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have
for fellow writers – other than run!? Writing a book can take years. Be patient with yourself. Let
ideas change and evolve until it's a book you are proud to put on the market.
6. What trends in the book world do you see --
and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading? Digital content! Call me old school, but I
love actually holding a book. I enjoy flipping pages and using a physical
bookmark. My book is a great coffee table book. Anyone can pick it up and flip
through the pages for light entertainment. That cannot be as easily achieved in
the digital world, in my opinion.
7. Were there experiences in your
personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book? Talking to other moms about breastfeeding and
hearing their stories that they kept inside because they felt as though they
didn't have an outlet that others could relate to. I want there to be no shame
in one of the most natural mother and child experiences there is. I want other
moms and dads to feel like this book is a friend in their back pocket (or
coffee table).
8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing
similar to? Creative writing using real world situations with pictures that are
also both real world and imaginative. My book is similar to comic books.
9. What challenges did you overcome in the
writing of this book? One of my challenges
was how I wanted to organize the book. Since there are 101 moments, I divided
the ideas into chapters to keep similar thoughts together.
10.If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why
should it be yours? It's a great present for yourself, moms-to-be, new
moms, or even moms past the nursing stages that want to reflect. It's such a
fun, light hearted, easy read.
