1) What inspired you to write this book? I'm not able to clearly define what inspired me to write 'A Puppy's Tale'. The concept of the story came to mind in a flash, and the narrative materialized. I thought the idea was innovative, and I wrote it to entertain and amuse, and at the same time nurture.
2) What exactly is it about--and who is it written for? My story is about two rascally puppies, Snuggle and Spike, who live next door to each other. They're the very best of friends and have lots of mischievous fun together. But Snuggle has a secret wish tugging at his heart. He wants more than just backyard adventures... he is determined to chase his real dream. He very much admires Spike's long, eye-catching tail and yearns for a long, shapely tail too! After several playful attempts to lengthen his tail fail, the daring pups decide to dabble in tail-trick magic! There is a surprising twist at the end which will delight young readers. The story was written for children aged 4-7 years.
3) What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? This fun story not only entertains, but enlightens and inspires young minds to value themselves and their own attributes. It gives a unique perspective, offering a fresh and engaging angle on the merits of determination, courage, and steadfast friendship. And a life lesson in acceptance which will resonate with readers of all backgrounds. Snuggle's story will melt your heart.
4) How did you decide on your book's title and cover design? Given the storyline, the title of 'A Puppy's Tale' was an obvious choice; and a colourful cover design showing the pups playing in the garden seemed appropriate.
5) What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers? I wouldn't profess to give advice to successful authors. My counsel is to the wealth of untapped talent out there. People who have the ability to write and contribute... Perhaps, for many it was necessary to forego formal education and start work at a young age. If you want to be a writer, do it now. And remember they can't teach talent!
6) What trends in the book world do you see--and where do you think the book industry is heading? At the moment the trend is towards YA fantasy novels, enemies to lovers, with the focus on mystical sword-play, dragon-slayers, and magical realms. It's hard to judge where the book industry is going... I hope demand for real paperback books will remain for some time to come.
7) Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book? We all carry our life experiences with us... we are our past. So I guess as authors we're able to draw on events that have happened to us. Regarding the theme of this tale... Most of us want something we haven't got at certain times in life, it's human nature.
8) How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your similar to? Have I got a writing style... I'm not sure about that one! I don't align myself or books that I've written to be similar to other authors. I go with the flow, and it seems to work.
9) What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? I didn't come across any challenges in the actual writing of my first picture book. For me the challenges surfaced when the book was published. I was a complete novice concerning book promotion and marketing; and I'm still on a learning curve!
10) If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? 'A Puppy's Tale' is an upbeat story brimming with fun, mischief and magic; and the animal characters do not disappoint. It blends the elements of an exciting quest spliced with danger, spirited characters, and a heartwarming tale of friendship. Many young children will find an understanding and empathy with the character portrayed by the appealing puppy Snuggle, as he yearns for the unattainable. Which is very relevant in today's society. The story has the ability to deliver a subtle but powerful message, and I suggest parents add it to their collection!
About The Author: I grew up in a small village in Dudley and I still reside in the area. In another life I was a seamstress... it seems so long ago now. Later I was employed in a bridal salon as a sales adviser. Yet, writing was waiting for me; awaiting my recognition. I just had to take the first step. And now I've fallen in love with the written word! Please see: http://www.Iinkedin.com/in/carol-ann-bradley-4080a432b
“I have a friend I go to whenever I have a really tough problem to solve. After I explain it to him, invariably his first question is, "What rules can we break?" He knows that I have assimilated so many rules into my thinking that after a while they become blind assumptions. It's difficult to be innovative if you're following blind assumptions.” —A Whack on the Side of the Head: How You Can Be, More Creative, 25th Anniversary Edition by Roger von Oech
