Are AI Book Clubs Next?

Nearly every author that I speak with would love to get their book in front of book clubs. The problem is that book clubs either cost a lot of money to get in front of or it takes many, many hours to find and reach them.

But what if there was a way to bring a book club experience to every reader?

Imagine buying a book and enjoying it. Now you want to discuss it with others but you don’t belong to a book club or you don’t know of one that is reading that same book.

Some readers will search online for community boards or book reviews to see what others said about a book, but that is not a conversation or a dialogue of give and take.

What if you could attend a zoom call with a dozen other beings to discuss the book you just read? You would likely jump at the opportunity to participate.

One day soon we will have video chat bots discussing a book — and readers will embrace them. The book club experience will be brought to the reader, rather than a book club being brought to a book. Both are needed.

What would be cool is if there was a web site or an app that matches readers of the same book with each other to discuss it. Like a
meetup.com — only free.

Maybe local bookstores and amazon can get the ball rolling by handing out QR codes to every book consumer that connects them to readers of each purchased book.

We don’t need more text chat groups. We need people talking live to each other and not at one another, in the same room, and if not in person, then on a zoom.

Are we ready for the AI Book Club? That is better than nothing, but what we need are real people interacting in a human way to discuss the books that touch and shape us.
