Yippy For IPPY Awards

I recently attended the IPPY Awards, which honors the best indie books of the year, and was reminded over and over again why I am in the book industry.  The enthusiasm of these authors is infectious and when you talk to any of them you get excited. They love to write, found a way to get published, and wear many hats in the process of promoting and selling their books.

The public relations company that I work for, MEDIA CONNECT, sponsored the gala celebration that was held during Book Expo America in New York City.  The best independently published books were chosen from authors and publishers in the US, Canada and 24 countries.  5,600 authors submitted their books for consideration.

The awards – The Independent Publisher Awards – are presented by www.independentPublisher.com, which is run by an industry veteran, The Jenkins Group.

One of the winners is a new client of MEDIA CONNECT, a photographer book by Gary Zuercher called The Glow of Paris: The Bridges of Paris at Night (Marcorp Editions).  The beautiful coffee table book took home the gold for “inaugural non-fiction.”

The 19th IPPYs were held at the historic Providence Club in midtown Manhattan.  Over 250 authors attended.

"Our ceremony isn’t your traditional awards gala," says Director Jim Barnes. "It follows in the spirit of the awards, which seek to recognize creativity, passion, and an indie attitude. The venue itself was once used as a recording studio for some of rock’s greatest artists, and we like to think we are keeping that rock’n’roll feeling alive by gathering some of the most talented indie authors and publishers in the industry here."
