Interview with author Danielle LaPorte

WHITE HOT TRUTH:
Are you living yours?

1. What really inspired you to write your book, to force you from taking an idea or experience and conveying it into a book?
I was "inspired", ahem, by my own fatigue of self-helping. And I'm a self-help author, so I the irony is awesome. I was tires of trying to get better at getting better. And I saw the same dynamic with so many of my girlfriends and women in the online space.
And I have a lot to say on what I've learned about true spiritual devotion...and trying to be a "superhuman". It turns out that it's better to just try and be a super human.

2. What is it about and whom do you believe is your targeted reader?
It's about keeping it real on your spiritual path. Finding out what your definition of wholeness is. I'll sum it up in a hashtag: #beyourownguru.  White Hot Truth is for anybody who considers themselves a seeker, or on the path of wellness, and wanting to be of service in the world. It turns out that a lot of women identify as just that. We're doing our best to be socially responsible, conscious parents. Loving partners, triple bottom line business owners, and some of us are burning out from the self-help overdrive. But! The desire to know more about life, and to be well and compassionate hasn't gone away. We just need to get clear on why we're trying to grow. It's all about the why.

3. What do you hope will be the everlasting thoughts for readers who finish your book? What should remain with them long after putting it down?
I really hope White Hot Truth gives people a sense of deep relief... that the crazy things they've done to improve themselves, to be more spiritual, to be better, are actually an initiation. It's all natural and essential. You've got to fall for some lies to get to your truth.
If there's any degree of liberation that someone gets from this book, or maybe just a few laughs, then I consider that an accomplishment.

4. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers?
Well personally, I write for two reasons. One is to be self-expressed. Secondly to be of service. So I have to be really clear on what it is that I want to say. So my advice: Know the point that you want to make. And stick to it. And then make that point as efficiently, and if it's your style, as poetically as you can. Write to serve.

5. What trends in the book world do you see and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading?
I published White Hot Truth myself. I've done hybrid self-publishing and distribution deals with other publishers. I've been published by some of the big five publishers. And this time, it felt right to go rogue, partly because I'm setting my business up to become a publisher for other's people's work. Because this industry is in such need of innovation. I want to mine the gold of content that I see with the real talent around me, and set up a systems for my authors/co-creators of mutual opportunities.
So maybe I'm crazy or maybe I'm on the leading edge, but I think we're going to be seeing a lot more creatives, especially those who have social media platforms, take their book publishing into their own hands

6. What great challenges did you have in writing your book?
The same challenges that every writer has: Focus, focus, focus.

7. If people can only buy one book this month, why should it be yours?
White Hot Truth is about discernment. And that's a very, very powerful skill to have in life. And love. And that's always good thing.
