Hot Chixs Hot Sex:
How to Survive Menopause
What really inspired you
to write your book, to force you from taking an idea or experience and
conveying it into a book?
My inspiration for writing my book was my life’s work with patients
specifically women. Over the years I had listened to thousands of women telling
me how confused and helpless they felt as they entered a phase of their lives
that by all reports was viewed as a natural transition at midlife. However in
reality, their symptoms and experiences were far from normal. This was a
journey which all women would embark on.
After hearing so many of their stories, I realized that I needed to
recount them, while also making available the tools and resources that would
help them experience menopause in a positive and empowering way. That would
then enable them to live their next third of their lives with passion and
wellness instead of despair and disease. Writing a book enabled me to leave a
legacy to all women that would be a roadmap for midlife and beyond.
What is it about and
whom do you believe is your targeted reader?
My book is about living well and adding life to a woman’s years and
not just years to her life. I help women in my book go from feeling not
listened to, and that menopause is the end of life as they know it to embracing
this new phase of their lives. I offer a how to guide to balancing hormones,
relieving symptoms and preventing the chronic diseases associated with
menopause and ageing.
My targeted reader is women in their 40’s, 50’s, and 60 are who are
approaching or in menopause and need a road map.
What do you hope will be
the everlasting thoughts for readers who finish your book? What should remain
with them long after putting it down?
After reading my book I know women will be left with the thought
that they can handle whatever menopause has to throw at them. That they can
live a life filled with passion and purpose- that their bodies are not meant to
betray them or let them down. Falling apart as they age is not normal. Women
reading my book will be left with the everlasting desire to not just accept
their age but to do it gracefully. They will find a voice that expresses how
they feel and not be ashamed to use it to ask questions and demand answers.
What advice or words of
wisdom do you have for fellow writers?
Advice is plentiful everywhere. So I offer these following words of
wisdom. I never thought of myself as a writer. However, it’s not about writing
the next War and Peace. It’s about telling a story that needs to be told and
that you need to disseminate to your audience. Without doing that you have
deprived so many of the wisdom of your knowledge and life experiences whatever
they may be. So as the slogan says just do it. The words will come from inside
and they will show your experiences and acumen to your reader.
What trends in the book
world do you see and where do you think the book publishing industry is
heading?
As an avid reader I wondered if books would become extinct. It seems
that may not be the case. A book in today’s electronic media is available in
different formats so after an e-book, the consumer then wants to purchase the
actual book. A book still enables the reader to make notes and personalize
their experience from it. A physical book allows the author to speak to the
reader as if they were in the room with them. For me it a book is a physical
business card that establishes me as the expert in my field. A book is for
life.
What great challenges
did you have in writing your book?
Challenges along my road to becoming a published author were many. Not
least is actually committing the words to paper or electronic screen. As a
perfectionist I always wanted to revise my book and find new research. Eventually,
I subscribed to the mantra of sloppy perfection. Once I had written the first
sentence my creative juices began to flow. It’s about getting the work done so
you can put the product out there. A book that forever stays in one’s mind is
never going to help the people that you are writing it for.
If people can only buy
one book this month, why should it be yours?
If you’re a woman living with no energy, sleepless nights, weight
gain, mood changes from hell and no sex drive then the only book you need to
