Authors, like siblings in a large family, compete with one another for attention and praise, but they also cooperate and collaborate with each other. In the end, they belong to one big family--and only they can truly understand what the other goes through.
I recommend to authors that they befriend other authors. Where can writers connect? They can:
**Join an established writer’s association, based on geographic location (i.e Florida’s Writers Associations). genre (i.e Romance Writers of America), or as a writer (National Writers Union).
**Join other groups online. Facebook and Linked In have tons of groups for writers to connect with other writers
**Seek out other writers by searching online, going to a writer’s social media feed or website, and sending an introductory message to them.
**Attend events in-person or by zoom, such as a writers conference or book fair, and meet fellow word craftsmen --and women -- of letters.
**Go online and find writers at meetup.com.
**Meet writers in an adult-ed course on writing, a writer’s retreat, or a Master of Fine Arts program.
Okay, now that you see how easy it’s to find and meet authors, how might you collaborate with them?
- Endorse each other. Take their testimonial and put it
on your website and in other marketing materials.
- Mutually post on social media about one another.
- Interview each other on your prospective blogs or
podcasts -- or guest-post on each other’s blog or social media platform.
- Seek advice and guidance on strategy.
- Give each other inspiration and support. Be there for
pep talks and celebrations.
- Share resources and reduce costs.
- Learn by observing what they do that works, whom they
know that can help you, and where they spend time to market their books.
- Host a book club to feature each other’s titles.
- Get their opinions on your writing or marketing plans.
Feedback from a writer is helpful.
- Recommend each other’s books on BookBub, GoodReads,
Amazon, etc.
- Offer giveaways of each other’s books.
- Collaborate to do webinars, virtual events, Twitter Chat,
Facebook Live, etc.
- Plug each other’s newsletters.
- Inspire a friendly competition that pushes one
another.
- Have a friend to eat, drink, and be merry with.
