Can Authors Uncover Book Sales Opportunities?

On my man cave TV set recently was an old episode of the hit 1970s police drama, Adam-12. I have seen every episode many times. The show offers me that background noise while I answer emails. But this episode caught my eye — and gave me a book-related idea.

The storyline involved how the LAPD of 50 years ago was introducing the use of a computer program to help predict where crimes will likely take place, scoring an accuracy rate of over 90 percent!

It got me wondering: Could there be some computer software that identifies sales opportunities for books or can help predict which titles should sell well? Maybe it already exists and only a select few know about it.

Authors should know that they don’t really need any kind of magical cure to get book sales. They just need to be consistent, resilient, and persistent.

Every day, or just about, an author should spend at least 15 minutes a day to market their brand and promote their book. Some days they will spend several hours, and most days will vary. They must have a plan that focuses their attention and effort on logical activities, such as:

* Creating or revising a web site
* Being pro-active on social media
* Applying for book awards
* Seeking out media coverage
* Getting interviewed by the news media
* Reaching out to schedule speaking engagements
* Crafting blog posts
* Expanding your distribution
* Displaying at a book or writers conference
* Networking in your industry or with a writers association

The list of to-do’s can be endless. Tackle things one at a time, day by day, but have a plan and always show up.

You want to know where you can get book sales? It is wherever you apply yourself to secure attention for your book. You found the secret hiding place — it is where you reside each and every day.
