Marrying People To Books

 


 

Opportunistic book publishers and savvy authors should take note of the trends concerning relationships.

Studies show, as a percentage of a state filled with people 15 or over that were never married, New York leads. 38.61 percent of New Yorkers never married. This was followed by Hawaii, California, Massachusetts, and Louisiana, at 36.27 percent.

On the one hand, this is not surprising. People delay marriage and kid-bearing. More people don’t stay married who get married and many either find love but don’t get married, or they simply don’t find love.

Now, maybe the study, based in part on Census data, may not be accurate, and one has to question why they include underaged teens in this study, but there has been a clear trend of fewer people in a marriage. And let’s not even discuss what the happiness level of these marriages may be.

On the other hand, some states showed a bigger commitment to getting married. 72.25 percent of Wyoming residents, 15 or older, had gotten married. Close behind are Idaho, Maine, West Virginia, and Arkansas.

It would seem books on dating and the single life would do well, at least in certain states, and it seems like books about marriage would do better in certain states.

Romance books is the top-selling genre in America. Why? Because those aspiring to experience love, read romance. Those who want love defined, read romance. Those even in a marriage, albeit a flawed one, read romance. Romance also has been transformed to include all kinds of relationships and all types of sexual practices.

Likely, it is younger people that have never been married, so books that particularly cater to their needs is what book publishing houses should focus on.

Whether married or single, one should have a choice of quality books available to them.
