1. What inspired you to write this book? I am always writing, and somehow, I started writing
poems. My Dad encouraged me to get my
poems published and before I knew it, I had written 55 poems, that really mean
a lot to me. It is because of my dad
that this work has come to fruition. I
thank him with all my heart, that he believed in me, and still believes in me.
2. What exactly is it about and who is
it written for? My book
Season of Poems is about the actual seasons, seasons of life, and different
personal revelations into my life which I could not leave out. It is written for whoever wants to be
uplifted, inspired, touched, or enlightened.
3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your
book? I hope readers will get a new look
at life and what it means to be a friend to someone in need, to not judge
anyone for their background, or where they came from. To look at life with new eyes. To realize we are all in this together and
there is a purpose to life.
4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? I decided my book’s title and cover design when I felt that
there were different “seasons” that I was writing about, I couldn’t think of
anything better than “Season of Poems”.
The cover design reminds me of when I wrote most of the poems in this
book which was the Fall of 2022. I love
lakes, oceans, trees, and especially trees that are changing color. I also love sunsets. So, the cover design was a perfect match for
me.
5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow
writers – other than run!? I
would tell fellow writers to put your heart and soul into what you are writing. Anything that speaks from the heart is
usually well understood. I have always
followed my heart, and it has made me into the person I am today.
6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you
think the book publishing industry is heading? I believe the book world is transforming digitally, and
masterfully so allowing people who normally wouldn’t buy a hardbound book, to
experience the love of reading on a different platform.
7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that
came in handy when writing this book? There
were experiences in my personal life that I did refer to when it came to
writing “Season of Poems”. I came from a
divorced family situation when I was only four.
When my mom remarried it wasn’t soon after that I was not treated
fairly, was physically and mentally abused, mocked, spit at, whipped, hit in
the face, and pulled by my hair. I also
was kicked out of my house when I was 15 years old and told to not come back. I was able to live with some friends, and
eventually the bishop and his family of my church, which was the best thing
that could’ve ever happened to me. We
read scriptures every night, Had Family Home Evening every Monday night and
went to church every Sunday, in which I was a part of a Young Women’s Program, and
went to Seminary. This was my new lease
on life. I received a scholarship to go
to college, and the rest is history!
8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or
books is your writing like? My
writing style is Clairvoyant. I speak of
things many people would not put into writing, and yet some things that are
funny, that are beautiful, that really open up the soul. I feel like the scriptures do that for
me. It is a type of prose in which you
must study things out in your heart and know by faith that it is true. I liken the scripture to my own life whenever
I can. Sometimes it is hard to read them
as often as I would like but, the word of God is something I hold very sacred,
just like words that come from your heart feeds the soul as well.
9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this
book? I have overcome many challenges in
life specifically the fact that I am sick and will have to take medication for
the rest of my life for an imbalance in my brain, in which the Neurotransmitters
are in unequal balance between the left and right hemispheres of the
brain. I have come to understand and
accept this fact since 2015. Otherwise,
words came to me in dreams, and upon waking from sleep that I would do my best
work. I was able to complete this work
in the Fall of 2022.
10.
If people could buy or read one book this
week or month, why should it be yours? Book lovers all over the world would
love my book. It is raw, funny,
beautiful, soulful, heartfelt, and well written poetry for all ages. I would love to get my book into as many book
enthusiasts as possible.
