1. What inspired you to write this book? The inspiration for writing this book is that i wanted to write something that was real and that everyone could relate to in our everyday lives. We all feel emotions and the decisions we make are determined by what we feel. Also, if we would still make the same decisions if we felt a different emotion at the time.
2. What exactly is it about — and who is it written for? Everything Starts With An Emotion is a selection of poems that are based on emotions and scenarios that they could happen in. I would say it is aimed at 9+ as its about self-recovery and reflecting.
3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? By reading the book I hope the readers read it and get a sense of the feeling that is being portrayed. It was written with the intention of each poem bringing out a different emotion.
4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? For the book title I wanted it to set the scene for the book and I believe that everything we do or don't do is based on emotions that we feel. As for the cover I came up with the concept of wanting it to be spiritual. I chose to show that just because we smile it doesn't mean that we are happy. I wanted it to be symbolic, as the window is open. The moon will represent a new beginning and a new journey. I also feel like the cover is up for readers own interpretation.
5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!?This is my debut book and i am a newly published author, but my advice would be to keep going and believing even if self-doubt creeps in. It's not easy and it takes time, but stay true to your vision.
6. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book? Experiences in life do influence my work. My career shows me how quickly life can change. The people I meet and talk to influence me. Also, music and tv shows that make me feel an emotion that then inspires me to do the same.
7. How would you describe your writing style?
Which writers or books is your writing similar to? I like to think of myself as a
method writer to get in to the head space off what I'm writing about. I
like to try different styles to keep it exciting. Whether it's
narrative, lyrical, or descriptive. I like to use characters, because I like
storytelling and taking the reader on a journey. As of yet I haven't come
across any books or authors that have a similar writing style to me.
8. How do you feel your book compares to others in your genre? There are other books that touches on emotions, but i haven't come across a book that has similar writing style to me when it comes to bringing characters alive and making them appear real.
9. What challenges did you overcome in the
writing of this book? The
process of editing and designing the book went quite smoothly. But as a newly
published author I would say getting my book out there and reaching the
audience.
10. If people can buy or read one book this
week or month, why should it be yours? You should give my book a read, because it will take you
on an emotional journey. Each poem brings out a different emotion and offers a
chance to self-reflect. It's full of drama, love, heartache and emotions that I
feel are relevant today.
