Interview With Anti-Bullying Author Clara Wajngurt, Ph.D

1. What inspired you to write this book? Over the years I had seen many people on my campus being bullied by their supervisors and chairs-I said nothing as I was moving up the promotional ladder-but finally decided to speak out against this-we need to stand up to those being bullied and to give them support!

2. What exactly is it about and who is it written for? The book is essentially a collection of blogs that I wrote each week for two years. The blog went out across the internet-and I also had an internet show interviewing guests specialized on this issue. My goal was to get the word out that bullying others is ineffective and must stop.

3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? I want to reach out to people-children and adults-and help them to overcome bullying. Teach and guide them about resources'-what to do when one is bullied-and how to react to the bully.

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? This was done together with my publisher Newman Publishing. I am satisfied with the cover.

5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? I recommend that more people write about their experiences and favorite topics. Write and develop your thoughts clearly-don't obsess over writing style and how it comes across. If you can describe the situation clearly everyone will relate and understand it. Authors can now publish their own books through Amazon and other media as this.

6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading?  I see more books on cyberbullying...more books on how bullying affects children. Bullying is becoming more and more prevalent across the board. One needs to be held accountable for bullying other targets. The book publishing industry must rise with the advancement of technology. Networking, collaboration, artificial intelligence(e.g.., proofreading.) are ways to develop and see how this effects the publishing industry today.

7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book?  I witnessed many targets being bullied-and not standing up to the bully. This has to stop-more self-assertiveness is needed in the workplace.

8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing similar to? It is more descriptive and narrative in blog form for this book.

9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? I have many ideas with regard to writing about bullying. I figured to start with my blogs and I can develop other aspects of solving the bullying issue in our society today. Meeting deadlines-getting a full manuscript in readable form to the publisher-the need to organize my time to put the blogs together in ordered form.

10. If people could buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? I ask for my reader to be empathetic to the target of bullying and to understand that the bully may have personal problems. I want my reader to be empathetic to both the target and bully. Understanding what people think is not often expressed in books and the blog form of writing expresses this perspective.
