At
the core of things, what type of book marketing mindset or strategic approach
do you operate from?
When
you look at other areas of life, you likely operate out of a certain frame of
mind that allows you to dictate your actions.
For instance, if you want to avoid going into debt, what do you do?
First,
you have a budget and an awareness of what you earn and spend.
Second, you filter your expenditures and actions based on one thing: Can I really afford this? What are my less expensive options or free alternatives?
Three, you let a single-minded focus of not going into debt rule your life – without exception.
Take
another area, like dating. You need to
make up your mind as to what you want.
Are you looking to just have fun and sleep around? Are you looking for a serious companion? Are
you looking for a certain type – in looks, brains, age, religion, etc.? Do
you have certain goals or concerns that are age or time sensitive?
You
build your dating strategy around your deepest goals. If you approach it with no plan you suddenly
end up somewhere you do not want to be.
Take
dieting. Either you are watching what
you eat – or you’re not. You either
commit to exercise, or you don’t. Again,
you can’t just go at your health without some goals, unless you risk early
death, chronic conditions, or discomfort.
So,
I ask again, what’s your book marketing approach? It won’t just happen on its own unless you
take the helm and drive this truck down the right road.
Ask yourself:
·
Do I want to write more books?
·
Do I want to leverage your brand to get paid speaking gigs, consulting jobs,
teaching positions, or to sell other services and products?
·
Am I passionate about sharing your message, perhaps wanting to start a movement?
·
Could I book have spinoff potential – movie deals, TV rights, foreign publishing
contracts, adaptation into course material?
Figure
out WHY you write books. UNDERSTAND what
you hope to accomplish in six months or six years. ACT on what needs to be done now to get the
ROI later.
Set
goals and develop the small actions steps that are needed to bring about the
change you desire. Yes, you can hire people
to help you, buy ads, and do all kinds of things to advance your cause. But
none of that means shit until you know what you want to do and then figure out
how to get it.
Give yourself clarity and vision – and your writing career will get a boost that may just propel it towards a wonderful journey.
