·         Ignore the facts that don’t suit them.

·         Only quote positive testimonials -- never list a negative review.

·         Put a spin on everything.

·         Smile often, especially when making unsubstantiated claims.

·         Criticize industry leaders in hopes of knocking them down a notch.

·         Twist statistics around to only paint a favorable position.

·         Fail to reveal a bias or conflict of interest .

·         Dress up the ordinary.

·         Get people excited about the ideal, the perfect, and the best, even though you don’t promise to deliver these things.

·         Say enough things one can agree on, about things not even related to what you are selling, so as to build  up a favorable rapport.

·         Find a way to get another to like them on a personal level so that he will feel bonded – builds a false trust.

·         Avoid answering certain direct questions.

·         Listen carefully to what the customer wants and then regurgitates his words back to him.

·         They press emotional buttons -- fear, desire, greed, love, ego.
