Why Do Authors Need More Social Media Followers?

Authors seek fame, fortune, and influence. They want lots of sales. They want their words to impact others and to feel worthy as a result of winning awards, receiving news media attention, and garnering many positive reviews. But they first need to make sure of one thing: They have to increase their number of social media followers!

One’s social media numbers — the amount of connections you have — is like a marketing credit score. Not having followers is akin to someone not establishing their credit. Or worse, low follower numbers on social media are akin to having bad debt and a poor history of paying back loans and credit card bills.

Your social media is a currency or a commodity that can be cashed in.

Who looks at an author’s social media connection totals? What do you hope they see when they peer into your social media numbers?

Here’s who cares — and why:

The consumer — wants to feel like they are reading the book of a somebody who has fans.

A bookstore — would love to carry the book of a popular author.

News media outlet — more willing to interview authors who have bigger followings.

A publisher — looks to publish authors with a built-in following online.

A literary agent — knows that the social media resume of an author impacts a book’s sellability to a publisher.

Fellow social media influencers — they pay attention to those who get attention.

Your social media numbers impact your:

·         Brand

·         Chances of getting published

·         Ability to be interviewed

·         Opportunities to get reviewed

·         Movie deal offers

·         Chances to sell prior books/services/other things

·         Ability to sell the stuff of others

·         Chance to save lives

·         Availability to be hired as an influencer

·         Ability to further a cause or issue

Authors clearly need bigger social media numbers if they want to succeed.
