How many writers start a book and never complete it?
How many write a manuscript but never get it published?
How many authors have their book published but did so with little or no editing — or with a bad editing job?
Perhaps you answered yes to one or more of these questions. What will get you to the winner’s circle, to go all the way and complete your book, make sure it is edited well, and seeing it get published?
Of course, the fourth step — to market yourself and promote your book — is an enormous one, but we will shelve that for now.
Will this be the year that you piece it all together?
Are you holding back for any particular reason?
Write, rewrite, edit, and publish. That is your map. Now go on your journey.
Those who edit their book clearly have:
*Courage and confidence to go there.
*Time to get it right.
*Intelligence to properly correct and improve a work.
*An ability to recognize editing is needed.
*Ambition and motivation to produce better writing.
As writers, we tend to marry what we write, as if each word were our offspring,
too priceless to part with. We see our words as holding a value that we simply
can’t part with.
My advice: free yourself.
Just because you wrote something doesn’t mean it is good, better than the writings of others, or even your best work.
Allow yourself to edit, delete, and alter your first expression of words. Reflect and revise as needed.
Will get a great book published this year? It
is your choice.
