Authors need many skills and traits to succeed. Some come with their DNA, others are learned and practiced. Here are six things that I believe talented writers will need in order to succeed as published authors.
1. Curiosity
Everything begins with a question, a desire, and a need to know. If one doesn’t question things and look to make them better, what will drive them?
2. Optimism
Attitude trumps aptitude. Confidence, conviction, and optimism are tremendous currencies to get what you want.
3. Momentum
You need to be able to initiate actions, not just react to things. You have to dig within you to be moved to act.
4. Support
The help and direction from family, friends, and coaches can get you through anything in life, including book marketing.
5. Rest
Yes, book marketing is not just about skills, connections, knowledge, experience, creativity, and timing -- it is about getting proper rest, diet, and exercise to help you function at your maximum, so take care of yourself!
6. Rewards/Fun
We all need a pay-off for being hard-working, goal-oriented, detailed, focused individuals. Incentives drive us to take risks, work longer, and act creatively.
Are you lacking in one or more of these areas? Well, it is time to address where you fall short and correct course. Start now.
