People ask me all of the time: How do you get book reviews?
The answer has many possibilities — all of which can yield an additional
quantity of quality reviews.
For instance, if you are assertive, creative,
and resourceful, you may secure book reviews by:
*Appealing personally to book reviewers with a
timely, targeted, and tantalizing offer.
*Asking those you know to post a customer review.
*Begging people to review your book. Play the guilt card if necessary.
*Paying for book reviews — either directly to professional reviewers or indirectly through third-party blog tours.
*Trading a favor or asset with someone who can post a review on amazon or social media.
*Using NetGalley and GoodReads.
*Offering something for free as a bribe.
*Donating books or money to an organization whose leader can pen an endorsement or testimonial for you.
*Incentivizing another by offering something
conditional in order to get a book review.
*Submitting a galley to top amazon reviewers, book trade
publications, blogs, websites, newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and
newswires three to four months prior to your scheduled publication date.
*Badgering your friends, family, neighbors, college alumni,
co-workers, fellow hobbyists, or congregants at your house of worship to review
your book.
*Soliciting the friends and family of your friends and family
to post a review.
*Agreeing to a quid pro quo review relationship with a
fellow author.
*Offering free copies of your book and/or something else to
lure others to post reviews.
*Paying an influencer to review the book and for them to ask
their followers to review it.
*Asking for people to post s book review when you speak
before a group — from the group’s host to the attendees.
Lastly, don’t rule out the two biggest unknowns:
luck and organic word of mouth.
